Nestlé NESVITA® pro-Bones sponsors educational camps of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society

Dubai, UAE - 14 October 2009: True to its promise to help increase action toward promoting strong and healthy bones around the Arab world, Nestlé NESVITA® pro-Bones has extended its support to another remarkable local project, this time in Palestine.

Organized by the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society (POPS) on the occasion of the impending World Osteoporosis Day on 20 October, more than 200 Palestinian middle-aged housewives have been invited to participate in three-day educational camps on osteoporosis prevention and management, set up in four districts around the West Bank. The camps will offer intensive awareness and training activities to upgrade the women's knowledge and skills concerning balanced nutrition and healthy lifestyles that can help prevent bone disease, in addition to proper management of home accidents and falls.

Dr. Elias Saba, President of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society said; "The educational camps aim to improve community awareness regarding osteoporosis prevention and management through empowering women in these communities to take charge of their - and their families' - bones. The training programs will be delivered by well-qualified instructors who will cover various topics about osteoporosis risk factors, and ways to reduce such risks, including the right nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits and exercises that can help ensure stronger bones. The first camp will be held in Bethlehem on 8, 9 and 11 October, followed by Jenin camp from 11 to 13 October, Hebron from 11 to 14 October, and Tulkarem from 21 to 23 October.

"POPS is keen on continuously conducting such practical programs, through which we can effectively serve the Palestinian community. This is part of our contribution to the different regional efforts serving the cause held out by the Pan Arab Osteoporosis Society and its members, in addition to active partners including Nestlé Middle East and its remarkable Nestlé NESVITA® pro-Bones," added Dr. Azar.

Launched earlier this year and lead by Nestlé NESVITA® pro-Bones, the Nestlé Strong and Healthy Bones initiative will help many other similar programs and activities see the light, with a view to ensure a larger number of women around the region are well-informed and equipped to prevent osteoporosis and ultimately enjoy healthy and active lives.

"We are excited to help such a good awareness project achieve its objectives in Palestine, and will continue to extend support to similar local activities all over the Arab countries year-round," commented Samah Al Manzalawy, Nestlé Middle East. "Every woman in the region should have access to credible information and resources to understand the seriousness of osteoporosis and the importance of early prevention to be able to enjoy a long active life."
